Mathematics Hub

The Mathematics Hub has some great resources for teachers (and parents) to help students with their numeracy skills.

​

The Mathematics Hub has curriculum resources and professional learning but also resources under the headings Planning, Teaching and Assessing. Within these headings you will find information on 'Inclusive Education' where you will find information to help students with disability, linguistically diverse students as well as meeting the needs of gifted and talented students.

Learning Difficulties

SPELD SA

SPELD SA offer a range of teaching resources on their website for literacy and students with learning difficulties. Their wesbite has resources under the headings 'Assessment Tools', Decodable Readers', 'Dyslexia Checklists', 'Sounds-Write Resources', 'UFLI Foundations Resources', 'Specific Learning Difficulties' and 'High Quality Phonics Programs'.

On their website you can purchase a copy of the booklet 'Understanding Learning Difficulties' which comes with an enclosed USB, which is "designed to provide principals, teachers and school psychologists throughout Australia with a greater awareness and understanding of the significant impact learning disabilities can have on students, and to outline the most effective remediation and accommodation strategies available to them in the classroom."

Dyslexia SPELD Foundation (DSF)

The Dyslexia SPELD Foundation (DSF) website has information for teachers under the headings 'Understanding Learning Difficulties', ' Effective Teaching Strategies For All Students', Supporting Students With Learning Disorders in the Classroom', 'Selecting an Intervention Program' and 'Intervention Strategies'. They also have free downloadable resources as well as DSF developed resources

For WA teachers - the DSF hold workshops at their South Perth office and can also hold in-school training. They also have a DSF library at their South Perth location where you can borrow specialist resources, including books, games and programs.​

Five from Five

"The Five from Five website contains information for teachers, support teachers, and school leaders on effective reading instruction informed by the ‘Science of Reading’. It is structured around the five ‘keys’ to reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension."

Speech, Language & Communication

Language Disorder Australia

Language Disorder Australia have some excellent resources to support students with Language Disorder. These include handouts and fact sheets as well as "effective and evidences based tools". They also have some webinars you can have a look at including 'Play for Language and Learning', ' Vocabulary Strategies for the Upper Years', Vocabulary Strategies for the Early Years', 'Navigating the Transition to High School', 'Interoception', Oral Narrative and many more.​

If you have a student with a language disorder in your class, I highly recommend you have a look at this website.

This information sheet from Amaze "is designed for teachers who are supporting Autistic students in their classroom. It provides practical strategies that will help teachers to create an effective and supportive learning environment."

Autism Awareness Australia

Autism Awareness Australia offer a free online training program for Early Childhood Educators supporting autistic children called 'Navigating Autism - The Early Years'.

"This course provides early childhood educators with a comprehensive understanding of autism, along with practical tools and strategies to support autistic children and create an inclusive and positive environment for all. From forming relationships with a child’s family to teaching through play, this 8 module video learning course offers practical strategies that educators of all ages, stages and backgrounds can implement into their day to day."

Positive Partnerships

 "Positive Partnerships is a national project funded by the Australian Government Department of Education" and is delivered by Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia). The website aims to "deliver high quality professional learning and resources through workshops, webinars and online modules for parents, carers and school staff."

You will also find an Online Planning Tool and an Online Learning Hub as well as Practical Tools & Information Sheets, Resources for First Nations People and Translated Resources.

Yellow Ladybugs

Yellow Ladybugs "are an Australian charity with a global reach, run by and for autistic girls, women, and gender-diverse folks, and their families."

Their website includes many resources and toolkits which are useful for both families and teachers.

This page does include many resources that can be purchased but also some free downloadable resources such as "Spotlight on Girls with Autism".

This site, which was developed in collaboration with the Department of Education, "offers co-branded practical tools and resources for neurodivergent students, teachers/support staff and parents/carers to support the roll-out of the Disability Inclusion Reform."

Queensland Government - Autism Hub

The Autism Hub, created by the Queensland Government, provides some great resources for teachers and school leaders.

Resources on this site include:

  • A 'Guided Functional Behaviour Assessment Tool' which is "designed to help teachers and parents understand, effectively respond to and prevent frequent minor behaviours."

  • Queensland School Autism Reflecyion Tool (QsArt) which was "developed for Queensland state schools, QsArt helps principals and educational leaders plan, implement and review processes that support students with autism.

  • Workshops - "The Autism Hub hosts and facilitates workshops for teachers, schools, and parents. Workshops can be face-to-face, online, or in the form of webinars and short courses."

All Play Learn

All Play Learn (from Monash University) has a great information and resource site on 'Blind and Low Vision' for teachers. Their site includes a definition as well as strengths, evidence-based strategies, best practice tips, curriculum considerations (separated into learning areas) and other considerations such as safety, first aid, behaviour, safety drills, friendships, homework, excursions, transitions, braille, low vision aids and co-occurring conditions. There are some additional pdf resources at the bottom of the page.

ADCET provide some great information for teachers on Vision Impairment and Blindness.

FASD Hub Australia

This page of the website is dedicated to Educators. It contains "information and resources for education staff, who play an integral role in managing FASD in the classroom and school".​

Early Childhood Australia

Early Childhood Australia have partnered with NOFASD Australia to develop an "educator guide to offer early childhood professionals research-based strategies designed to meet the diverse needs of children with FASD.

The guide explains what FASD is, how it occurs, its characteristics, and diagnostic criteria and pathways. Because FASD is a spectrum-based disorder, children will have different support needs. This guide offers educators access to a combination of research-based evidence and stories of lived experience to reinforce inclusive practice through:

  • practical and achievable strategies."

I have linked to the page with 'School Support Cards' which "comprise of a set of disability specific cards to be used as a quick and easy reference point to support strategies and ideas for schools, leaders, teachers and other support staff working with students with disability and additional learning needs."

AITSL - Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership

This fact sheet from AITSL is titled 'Creating an Inclusive Classroom Culture'. "In order for a student with disability to participate and thrive in their learning environment, it is important that they feel comfortable and that their education setting is inclusive.

Information includes:

All Means All - Australian Alliance For Inclusive Education

All Means All provide an Inclusion Toolkit for Educators which "has been written with leading inclusive education experts to assist educators to welcome and support diverse learners in their classrooms and schools".

AITSL - Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership

This AITSL webpage titled 'Spotlight - Inclusive education: Teaching students with disability' provides a lot of general information. It contains information linking to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the Australian Curriculum and the NCCD (Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability) and has a one page printout which outlines the "key role teachers play in supporting Disability Standards'. It also includes some links to national resources on inclusion, data and statistics,  resources for early childhood teachers, tools for assessing and identifying needs of students, teacher practices, building a culture of inclusions and online professional learning.

This website is fantastic for PE teachers as well as classroom teachers. Here you will find 'inclusive activity cards for all levels of ability designed to develop children's skills, confidence and motivation for sports-based activities.'
