Australian Curriculum

On this website you can find the Australian Curriculum for Foundation through to year 10. You can see what your child is expected to know in each of these year levels, in all learning areas, by the end of that school year.

It also has information relating to NAPLAN as well as other areas of Australian school education.

This website not only contains amazing literacy resources for teachers, but also some fabulous free downloads for parents.

​

 

Head to the downloads sections (which you’ll find right at the bottom of their homepage). Here you will find a free printable parents handbook. My favourites are the phonics and high frequency downloads, which are fabulous when printed in colour and laminated for your child to use at home.

Literacy Hub

The Literacy Hub helps young students develop their literacy skills and knowledge. They have some great resources and information on literacy milestones for children from birth until the early years of school.

 

You can download a great booklet which explains how parents can help their child learn to read. They also have some great information for parents about oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.

Mathematics Hub

Mathematics Hub

The Mathematics Hub helps students develop their understanding of numeracy. They have some great resources and information for teachers, parents/families and students.

 

You can download information sheets on what to expect for each year level at school in Maths (from Foundation through to year 10) and how you can support your child with some easy, everyday activities.

For students, there is information on 'Why do I need to know this?', 'Make a difference with maths' and 'Careers in maths'. There are also some online games for students ages 5-8 and 9-13 years and some online challenges too.

This is a fabulous Australian Government website with a lot of information and resources for "helping you to support your child's learning".

You can explore the website by age level (babies, toddlers, preschool, primary school and high school) or by toolkit. Toolkits include: Activities, Career Education, Communication, Creativity, Development, Life Skills, Literacy, Numeracy, Play, School, Science and Wellbeing.

The GIST Girls in STEM Toolkit

The Girls in STEM Toolkit

STEM is the study of science, technology, engineering and maths. This website is all about providing “girls and young women with resources to help them understand how their existing skills and interests can link to STEM careers and study pathways.”

 

There is a lack of females interested in STEM jobs and careers. This website provides support for girls interested in pursuing a career in STEM.

 

If you have a daughter in high school who is interested in the STEM subjects then this website is a good resource for your family.

Digital Technologies Hub

Digital Technologies Hub

A website for teachers, students and families to learn about Digital Technologies.

 

Students can learn to code and create using Digital Technologies. There are lesson ideas, activities, guides, resources, projects and information about Cybersafety.

 

There is also a list of organisations around Australia that have developed a range of extra curricula coding programs for students to participate in and there is a section dedicated to careers in Digital Technology and STEM.

 

You will also find a purchasing guide and descriptions which outlines Digital Technology tools and devices.

This website is all about student safety, wellbeing and positive relationships.

 

This website contains many articles for parents to help their children with a range of topics and situations. It contains information, advice and strategies for parents.

 

There is also a fantastic section for students (from Foundation through to Year 12) which includes information, videos, websites and quizzes. Some example topics include bullying, belonging, respect, making good choices, acceptance and inclusion, physical and mental health, relationships and cyber safety.

 

The Student Wellbeing Hub has been developed by Education Services Australia for the Australian Government Department of Education.

This resource website requires you to pay a subscription. If you want printable resources / worksheets (F-10) then this is the website for you. Their resources are linked to the Australian curriculum and there are a lot of them!! They even have a section for ‘Special Education Resources’.

 

It also contains some fun holiday or weekend activities such as word searches, colouring in and game worksheets.

ABC iView

ABC iView

If you live in Australia then I’m sure you’ve heard of ABC iView. But did you know they have many educational shows and clips for kids to watch and learn? There are the educational kids shows such as Alphablocks, Numberblocks, BTN (Behind The News) (check out the Education section).

And.....

There are also ten-minute lessons where Australian teachers teach fundamental skills and concepts in English, Maths and Science. There are a number of episodes for children in early childhood through to high school.

WooTube

Wootube

Eddie Woo is the Head Teacher of Mathematics at a high school in NSW, Australia. He first put some of his Maths lessons online to help one of his students, but his Wootube Youtube channel soon took off and now has almost 2 million subscribers.

​​

He has featured in newspapers such as The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian Financial Review as well as television shows such as Sunrise Australia.

Five from Five MultiLit

Five from Five - MultiLit

"The Five from Five project was developed with the objective of promoting effective, evidence-based reading instruction, by providing free resources to teachers, principals and parents and advocating for evidence-based policy with politicians and policy makers."

The website is aimed at parents of junior primary students and contains some great resources for parents under the headings:

Does my child need help?, Reading with Children, Vocabulary, Phonological & Phonemic Awareness and Alphabet Letter Sounds.

"These resources have been created for parents, carers and families of children in the early years of school. The activities support the important learning that happens at home. They are designed for you to have fun with your child and to help them have a great start at school."

The website contains a downloadable booklet (also available in audiobook & a supporting video) titled 'Helping your child with literacy and numeracy at home'. The booklet is aimed at parents of children in the early years of school. The booklet contains information on Literacy: Speaking & Listening, Reading and Drawing & Writing. It also covers Numeracy: Numbers & Counting, Adding & Subtracting and Identifying & Creating Patterns. The booklet also has a booklist which lists a number of books under the literacy and numeracy headings. 

Scootle

Scootle

Scootle is a fabulous resource linked directly to the Australian Curriculum. You can find resources for every learning area from Foundation (the year before year 1) through to year 10.

 

Scootle "provides Australian teachers with access to digital learning items". It also gives access to a huge number of parent resources. You can access parent resources by simply clicking on the  'Guest login' button in the top panel. No need to enter a username and password, just 'Continue as guest'. For information on how to use Scootle, simply head to the bottom of the page and under the 'Support' heading, click on 'User guides'  and then 'Download Scootle user guide for guests'
